MSED: Bird a Day #67 - Marika's Phoenix

He turned out much more "sweet" looking than I intended. I guess this is the way he wanted to look. Try as I might to be a serious artist/person I guess I will always be a (girly) kid inside and it will reflect in my work.

MSED: Bird a Day #66 - Portrait of Uncle Finch

I've been working on a larger piece, taking my time and enjoying the process. I will post it soon. There will be no bird tomorrow I am afraid, I will be spending the day with some lovely people in a lovely location. Here is another quick little ATC. Have a great weekend everyone!

MSED: Bird a Day #65 - Last Minute Parrots

Today was such a beautiful day I had to get out and get some more art supplies. Ha ha. I got some water based ink pads to block in backgrounds quickly and a set of Derwent Inktense pencils. I love the pencils. They are just like watercolor pencils except when you get them wet the colors are very intense. Once they are dry they are permanent and you can paint/draw or whatever over the top of them. They were quite pricy but I had a coupon for 45% off SNAG! I whipped up this artist trading card so I could try everything out. I can't wait to spend more time with them to see what I can come up with. Gosh! I love getting new supplies!

MSED: Bird a Day #64 -Operation Penguin Drop

Let's see, I started drawing and out came a bird bomber rocket. He looks bad-assed (can I say that?), but really he's on a hunger relief mission. Scrambled eggs for everyone!

MSED: Bird a Day #63 -But, He Has the Hat

I'm playing around with my color pencils to see which one scans/looks better on the internets. I am thinking of doing a larger sketch with just one color. I'm leaning toward the Indigo blue (second from the bottom) even though his wing is on backwards. What does everyone think?

MSED: Bird a Day #61 - Wazabird

I need to figure out a way to do faster projects. This one took me the better part of the day. The ones that take less time, I think for the most part, turn out better. I started out just drawing a feather. I probably should have stopped there.
Well, I guess I'm tired of birds.

MSED: Bird a Day #59 - Bad Bag Bird

Following one of the prompts in the book, I give you Younkers, the bad bag bird!
Wow! I think my bird project might be suffering due to too much Madmen and knitting.

MSED: Bird a Day #58 - Buzzin' Around

I want to get back on track with my project. I haven't been faithfully making a bird a day. My sister and her family were in town last week and I wanted to spend as much time as I could with them. But, I haven't been totally uncreative. I finished knitting my blue sweater and I started one for my daughter.

Here are just a few sketches of my bird character. I'm trying to decide if I should take him farther. I'm not sure what to do with him...

MSED: Bird a Day #56 - Buzz Bird

I used to draw this little caricature all over my notebooks in high school. It's time he showed his face again.

MSED: Bird a Day #55 - Rice Cereal Treat for One

My good friend Mary Katherine and I were talking one day about food and how I was missing sweets since early this spring when I started to watch my diet. It's good not to feel deprived and this little recipe is just the thing to satisfy. Thanks MK! Oh and it is  on the website They Draw And Cook! Under most recently added recipes. So exciting!

MSED: Bird a Day #52 - Baby Hummingbirds

This summer I was blessed with a hummingbird nest in one of our trees. It is very rare to find one and I was very excited. I was able to watch the mamma decorate her nest with moss and spiderweb, keep her eggs warm and watch her babies grow. Even though this really isn't  "art" I decided it needed to be part of my bird a day. Theses are my own point and shoot photos.
Pretty mama on her beautiful nest.

Two perfect eggs, I got on a ladder for this one.
They were really ugly at this stage.

If you view this one up close you can see they are starting to get their iridescent green coloring.

Looking cute.

Growing up. They would sit perfectly still whenever I came around just like they were told to do.

This shot was taken the day before they left the nest. I didn't try to take any more photos after this because they looked like they wanted to  fly away and I didn't want them to leave too soon but they were ready.
It was so much fun to check on my little birds every day. It was amazing to see how fast they grew. What a treat.

MSED: Bird a Day #51 - Little Happy Bird pt. 2

Here is the second half of yesterdays post. It's a birthday card for my lovely daughter. I didn't want her to know about it before I gave it to her. This is the outside and yesterday's post was the inside.
