MSED: Bird a Day #49 -Rice bird

Quantity over quality. This rice bird is made on black paper with a wild rice melody.

MSED: Bird a Day #48 - Who's Fast

This little owl is made of blue painters tape. I stuck it to the inside door of my husband and sons dirt bike racing trailer for encouragement before a race. I wonder how long it will take for them to notice it.

MSED: Bird a Day #40- Create in Me a Clean Heart

Boy this bird a day is really hard. It seems that I get all these ideas and then it takes so long to execute them that I can't get one done in a day. But I will keep plugging away!

MSED: Bird a Day #38- Feather Weight Bout

I'm a few days behind but I have plans to catch up. This project took a lot longer than I expected and at this point I am really tired of looking at it. Maybe I will like it better after a couple of days.

MSED: Bird a Day #37- The Staplings Come Home to Roost

MSED: Bird a Day #36- Chocolate Fudge Soda

Something Old. This image was scanned from the book "Betty Crocker's Cook Book for Boys and Girls" Copyright 1957. Apparently you can still buy this book on Amazon for $11.53. I bought mine at a garage sale for $1. I love everything about this book from the cute retro illustrations and photos to the quasi racist recipe called Old Black Joe which is a bowl of Wheaties with a prune on top with bits of apple for the eyes, mouth, and ears. A banana and cherry make the hat. When I saw it I actually gasped. I guess 1957 was a long time ago.
I love this recipe because of the little bird floating by the girl and the fact that I won't have to go to the drug store for my sodas any more. Hey wait, can you still buy Betty Crocker Chocolate Fudge Frosting Mix?

MSED: Bird a Day #34- Paperclip Goose

Wow! Is it hot and no relief in sight. Still, we have our electricity unlike Houghton County in the U.P.  Stay cool Houghton - Here's to getting you back on the grid.

Doodle for Mom

Mom left some important personal information at my house yesterday.
This is now on the back of it. Love you Mom.

MSED: Bird a Day #28- ATC (artist trading card)

I've been intrigued with the idea of artist trading cards for a while now and decided to make one. I really don't know much about it other than there is a regulation size of 2.5x3.5. I will be looking into it some more.

MSED: Bird a Day #27- Courtship under the Bower

Here is the new watercolor painting. As far as bird a day projects go I think I will keep the next few less time consuming. though I did have a lot of fun. I tried a new technic with this one - masking areas with frisket

It came in this cute little bottle. I discovered that it is made of tinted liquid rubber. I never knew.

Here is my line drawing with the frisket painted into areas that I didn't want the background color to go.
At this point I just hoped it comes off the painting better than it came out of my brushes (I ruined one of my really good round brushes).

Here is the painting with the background washed in.

Yeah! It rubbed right off!

Starting to paint
Have a great rest of the weekend everyone. And here's hoping you get a little wooing in.

MSED: Bird a Day #26- Color Studies

Well, I didn't meet my deadline for yesterday and I'm not exactly following the prompt. I had an idea for a water color and I wanted to try out some color schemes. Ok, and I got some new watercolors I wanted to try out. I still don't know what colors to use. What do you think?

MSED: Bird a Day #25- Rockin' Red Robin

This being creative everyday is making me come up with some pretty strange things. Today I worded with found objects in nature.
This is a tiny birds nest I found a while back and a small (2inch) stone found on a walk in the park.
I painted to look like a sleeping bird.

MSED: Bird a Day #24- Green on Green

I didn't think I was going to be able to get this one done today. I had something else in mind for this challenge. But as it turns out I find it difficult to paint on a leaves, and in a short while I knew it wouldn't get much better than this.

MSED: Bird a Day #22- Bridge

For those of you that don't live in Michigan. This is my rendition of the Mackinac (pronounced: mack-i-naw) Bridge. It connects the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan. It is the third longest suspension bridge in the world. The longest being in Japan and the second, Denmark. I have only seen it in person a handful of times (as I live in central lower MI and it is quite a trek). Every time I see it though it takes my breath away (and driving across it makes me hyperventilate) I guess I have a little bridge phobia.

MSED: Bird a Day #20- Home Made Clay

Shaped, baked, painted and penned. I can't believe it's already day 20!
I haven't played with clay since I was a kid. My Aunt Linda used to make bread dough for us and it seems like it would keep us busy all day. She would make these really intricate floral pieces and I remember wishing I could make something that beautiful.
